Finding the Flow

So, we've got another weekend without our live Supercross races, so I've got to come up with something to talk about. There is the topic of Villopoto, but really it's been done by many people so far, better than I could do it.

I figured instead I might try to describe something that has escaped many of my racer friends.

Flow - really it's hard to describe, even for me (and I don't mean to sound conceited, but I am a writer, am I not?). While it's hard to describe to someone, it's so easy to feel when you've got it and sorely missed when it leaves.

Basically, flow is when everything is right. It just clicks. Whether you're riding moto or off road, it's effortless. You go faster than you've ever gone with much less effort. You clear doubles with ease. Logs are no obstacle. It's pretty much when everything goes exactly the way you want it to and you can't do a darn thing wrong, even if you tried.

It's magic.

And for the first time ever, last week, I found mine.

It's a satisfying moment, even in practice, when one finds the right mix of confidence and skill, and everything starts going their way. Now, I'm not saying I'm gonna go out and run my class - this was in a practice like scenario, in an area I am intensely familiar with, but still. Man was it nice to get the flow going.

I'm thinking of hitting up a race next weekend, and we'll see if my flow continues on, but until then I'll just have to keep working on it.

If you happen to be at the OCMC race at Ragland come say hi. I'll be on #795, trying to find my flow.
