It is finally here! Round 1 of the CMRC Atlantic Region Motocross Series kicked off on Sunday May 20th. The weather was unreal all weekend; I cannot remember the last time I was wearing shorts and a T-shirt at the 1st race here on the East Coast.  Blain Prest and all the crew at Mill Hill MX Park did an amazing job preparing the track, having just enough water to hold off the dust for a majority of the day. There were some great changes made to the track with the additions of the new rhythm section and a sand section that proved to be extremely technical for all the riders time and time again as the day went on.

The Wide Open Racing pit area was getting a lot of attention with all the banners up and the team's new bikes looking unreal for the event. All of the classes got through practice smoothly and the track was shaping up with some great lines for the start of the races.

Logan Gallant was the 1st of the team riders to line up at the gate for Moto#1 of the season. Logan went to pull away for his sight lap when something happened to the bike and the rear brake pin had slid out and stopped his wheel from turning. We grabbed his bike and quickly wheeled it to the pits knowing we had only minutes to fix it. Big thanks to Ralph Mackay who had a spare rear brake pin. We ran Logan’s bike back the line as the 30 second bored came up.

When the gate dropped Logan jumped out of the gate, and took the hole shot and stretched a lead taking the 1st moto win! Logan showed he will be a big championship contender this season taking 3 or 4 moto hole shots, and going 1-1 in MX2 Junior, and 2-2 in school boy behind the proven fast Intermediate rider Ryan Mackay who went 1-1 on the day. Chelsey Hall came out swinging for 2012 as well going 2 for 2 on hole shots and finishing an amazing 2-2 after battling for the lead, going down and fighting for the 2nd position. John Gallant had 4 strong moto starts and showed he could run amongst the top riders in both the Vet GP and MX1 Junior classes having to battle from start to finish Johnny came out 3rd overall in Vet GP and 5th overall in MX1 Junior.

My day went great also, after shaking off the nerves of returning to the track where a simple corner crash ended my 2011 season I felt great. As I said before Blain and the crew did an excellent job of prepping the track, in my first moto I almost managed to grab the hole shot being the only 250F in a 450 Stacked PRO GP Class I was pumped. I rode strong and found a few things I need to work on regarding my conditioning (1st Race Arm Pump is a killer) all in all I finished 5th overall on the day which for my first full race back from injury was great. I want put out a huge congratulations to my entire team on there performances at Mill Hill coming out on top and putting Wide Open Racing where it should be. I also need to thank Golden Tyre Canada for the awesome tires that hooked up like crazy and allowed the team to get 5 hole shots on the day!
