Tucked away in the Annapolis Valley of NS, near Kentville, amongst the apple orchards, vineyards and farm fields is the beautiful Mill Hill Motocross Park. On Sunday, May 20, the track played host to the first race of the 2012 CMRC Atlantic motocross season. Two hundred eighty-five riders of all ages and abilities came from across the Maritimes for this event. The weather was amazing plus 30 degrees temperatures and clear skies all weekend.

Track owner, Blaine Prest and his large crew of volunteers, including the Canning Fire Department, the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides and course marshals did an amazing job.

The weather was hot and so was the racing from the 50cc up to the Vet Masters class. The big winners on the day included Malcolm Farris who dominated the 50cc 4-6 year old class, with a holeshot and the first place overall; Damon Baker continued his domination of the ATV Pro class in 2012; Inside MotoX & Off Road sponsored rider Logan Gallant finished first overall in the JR MX 2 class and had two holeshots on the day; Davey Fraser with a first in both the MX 1 Pro and Youth classes; Luke Penny first in the 50cc 7-8 year olds; and Abbie Landry with first in the Vet Master class.

The beginner class had 28 riders on the gate and Cody Jordie was the overall winner.

The Ladies class was entertaining, with a battle between Prince Edward Island’s Elizabeth Burke, Chelsey Hall, and Francine Leger. In the end, Burke took home first followed by Chelsey and Francine.

Be sure to check out the next race, at the Strang’s Motocross Park near Port Elgin, NB on Sunday June 10th.
