This truly is a Survivor’s Season.
I have to say, this has been one of the biggest, best attended Supercrosses at Toronto in recent years. The lower two bowls were mostly full, with only a sparse speckling of empty blue seats. They even opened up the third level for spectators, and it was almost 50% full, I’d say from where I was sitting. By far the rockiest, and the best attended, Monster Energy AMA Supercross at Toronto yet.
Ray’s JT Gear –
Real men wear pink? Well, Supercross rider Alex Ray might have to agree with that one. His powder pink JT gear caught eyes during practice and in the stands, turning heads on the concourse level as well. Now, I tend to avoid comments on fashion as I’m very rarely fashionable, so I’ll just say wearing power pink takes some big ones, right? Neon pink, not so much, but baby girl pink? Well, he’s bringing it back.
Slash Doing the National Anthem –
It’s Slash. It’s O Canada. Two kinds of awesome. Really, what more can I say?
Slash is in town for a concern and in conjunction with Canadian Music Week, and I guess someone must have realized what a good idea it might be to have him perform at Supercross. Well, I'll admit I was a wee bit apprehensive. I'm a fan of Slash, don't get me wrong - the man rocks! But the national anthem? Well, you know what, I'm convinced. It was awesome.
The Battle for Third in the Lites Main
Oh man! I was trying to get a better look at it, but man was it good. Tyler Bowers is massive, and Alex Martin not so much; it was like David and Goliath. Then Goliath tried to pull the trigger and ... whoops, there goes David right off the track!
Villopoto Killing It in the Heat and then the Main
What can you say about the kid from Washington state that hasn't already been said? He's freaking awesome. He's a machine. As awesome as it is to see a heated battle for first place, there is something to the mastery of skill required to have the kind of lead he gets on his competition. He's also now far enough ahead in points, if he wins one more race it's done. Game Over. He's our champ. Again.
Also, Dungey is still second in points. Kind of awesome seeing as he's been out for what, three races now?
K-Dub Making the Crowd go Wild
Okay, so maybe it’s a bit of a theme, but Kdub is the man. I’m sorry, you can disagree with me if you want, but I know I’m right. He woke the crowd up from their nap time when the lights went out and got them on their feet! In my opinion, he deserves honorary citizenship, in fact I'm sure he's only an order of poutine and a pint of Molson Canadian away from being one.
He is an absolutely amazing rider and a fan favourite, watching Kdub goof around on the bike is just amazing. He woke the crowd up from the nap they had been taking when the lights went out and the stuff happened.
I'm pretty sure the decibels in the Roger's Centre were louder when K-Dub passed for third than when Deano passed for first last year, and frankly, that's pretty awesome. When he does finally hang his helmet up for the last time, I will be one very sad Suzie. K Dub, thanks for making the Toronto Supercross that much more awesome.
