Strang's motocross park near Port Elgin, New Brunswick played host to the 2nd last round of the CMRC Atlantic Fall Series. A forecast of rain for the weekend hurt the turnout as the number of riders was down by about a 100. The rains stayed away until the last couple of motos on the day and those 200 plus racers that did show up put on a great show. The track was in amazing shape with riders blasting the sandy berms. Here are a few photos of how the day unfolded. Be sure to check out the final race of the Atlantic CMRC Fall Series at Riverglade MX on September 14th.
As I stood up on top of one of the table tops early in the morning with the rumblings of the 8oclock riders meeting in the distance. I wondered why the CMRC discontinued Regina’s track as one of the stops on the CMRC Pro National circuit. As I panned the track I saw many elevation changes, bowl turns, step ups, step downs, table tops, doubles, triples and uphill turns. Regina’s track is pretty awesome.
The final round of the 2013 AMA Pro Motocross Championships took place this past weekend at the Red Bull Lake Elsinore National in sunny Southern California.
SPOKANE, WA (August 24, 2013) –This past weekend in Lake Elsinore, California, fans and race teams entered the pits for the last time this year as the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship came to an end. Smartop by MotoConcepts rider Mike Alessi (#800/450) was fired up and ready to race after taking a weekend off from Salt Lake due to his injury at Unadilla. Through extensive therapy and rehabilitation, Alessi was able to ride at Press day on Thursday and said he felt really good about his bike set up and the condition his shoulder was in. Eager to finish the season off with a bang, Alessi and the MotoConcepts crew were motivated as ever to go racing and have some fun.
The Red Bull KTM Factory Team wrapped up a successful US Pro MX championships season at Lake Elsinore in California on Saturday with all three factory riders on the overall end-of-season podium. Ryan Dungey finished overall second in the 450-class and Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin, the team’s two European riders finishing 2-3 in the 250 class competition.
Monster Energy rider Ryan Villopoto closed out a stellar 2013 season in true champion style, earning his eighth overall victory in the triple-digit heat at Round 12 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in Lake Elsinore, Calif. After clinching the 450 Class championship last week in Utah, he didn’t need the win, but in typical Villopoto-fashion took control of both motos early and easily grabbed his seventh moto sweep of the season.
Many roadracing fans will know the name Brett McCormick, but moto fans may not. McCormick is one of the fastest roadracers to come out of Canada and the Saskatchewan native even had the chance to race in Europe for the Effenbert Liberty Ducati team in the 2012 Superbike World Championship season. Oh, and did I mention that he broke his neck that same year and came back to race? Well, he has been out ripping on his local MX track lately, as it turns out, he is pretty damn fast on the moto track too.
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto dominated en route to the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross 450cc championship as he ran away with both motos at Miller Motorsports Park, just outside of Salt Lake City. Villopoto’s 1-1 finish gave him an insurmountable 50-point lead in the championship standings. In the 250cc class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett made some patented late race moves to finish 2-2 for second overall. Rookie Adam Cianciarulo scored his first moto podium with a third place finish in Moto 1, but a crash at the start of Moto 2 saw him move from 40th up to ninth to earn a career best fourth overall. Darryn Durham put in a good ride scoring 8-5 for sixth overall. His rookie teammate Justin Hill also scored a top-10 finish. Martin Davalos rocketed to the holeshot in Moto 1 but difficulties in Moto 2 saw him finish 16th overall. In the 450cc class, Jake Weimer earned a top-10 result with a seventh overall while Tyla Rattray was able to score a fourth in Moto 1 but mechanical problems in the second moto led to a DNF and 12th overall.
It is hard to believe, but the amateurs are all finished for 2013. Dylan Wright was the big winner and after a long hard battle with Weston Wrozyna he took home the Bronze Boot. This is an award that has lead to big things for many of the past winners and I am sure that it will lead to great things for Wright was well. We all should look forward to watching his Pro career which starts tomorrow.
