Monster Energy Leading Edge Thor Kawasaki's MX1 and MX2 points leaders, Matt Goerke and Teddy Maier, have been dominant in the first two rounds of the series. Momentum is clearly on their side as the pair look to extend their points lead once again.
Florida's Goerke was one of the riders on the short list to contest Facciotti's #1 plate, but few predicted that coming into round three he would be undefeated in all four motos. Behind him are some amazingly talented riders including series heavy weights, KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing's Colton Facciotti and Dusty Klatt, Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha Motovan.com's Bobby Kiniry and MX1 freshman/Gopher Dunes Racing Troy Lee Designs Powersport Canada's Tyler Medaglia. All of these riders will be looking to rise to Goerke's level, challenge him for the top step of the podium this weekend and capitalize on any mistakes the green rider makes.
In the MX2 class Georke's teammate, Teddy Maier, has used a combination of speed and experience to make the first two rounds a winning game for him. Maier has been consistantly on the top spot regardless of where he started in each of the four motos. His performances have him beaming with a strong confidence, but as the series moves to Calgary, Maier will have some tough competition in the form of his teammate Kyle Beaton and KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing's Jeremy Medaglia. Both riders are young, but shown remarkable pateince, not yet ready to make any mistakes as they look to find the speed needed to take on Maier and break his win streak this weekend.
And, like any outdoor sport, the field has a big role to play. Wild Rose in Calgary, Alberta is known for deep ruts, big jumps and some steep hills; it is notoriously long and one of the fastest tracks on the schedule. The rider's workload will also be taxed by a higher than average elevation (approximately 3,500 feet above sea level), meaning thinner air. Fitness will definitely be a factor in this event.
Round three of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals, from Wild Rose MX Park in Calgary, will commence on Sunday, June 17. Live audio coverage will begin at 8:00am local time with opening motos starting at 12:10pm. To listen to the live audio coverage please visit: http://mxpmag.com/live-event-coverage-with-motoradio
