From the Corner Grass Race Team:

Wardlow, AB: Round 2 of the Geico EnduroCross series in Sacramento, California was the last opportunity for racers to qualify for the X Games.

CGRT’s Shane Cuthbertson ( Airdrie, AB ) and Ben Rego ( Kitimatt, BC ) made the trek to northern California with hopes of qualifying. Shane felt strong all day, riding well in practice and qualifiers, but had some tough luck when he least needed it. “ I got a bad start in my Open Am main, then someone crashed beside me, sticking his bars in my front tire. I qualified into the evening show, and had a good hot lap going, then got stuck in the Matrix. 3rd last”. With such a poor hot lap, Shane was relegated to an outside starting position, and despite good power from his TE300, he was unable to qualify into the main event.

Ben qualified for the evening show through the day, and started the evening off with a decent placing of 14 in hotlaps. But his 4 and 5 place finishes in his heat and semi did not advance him into the main directly.

In what turned out to be Ben’s final event of the night, he finished 3, and out of advancing position, behind Cory Graffunder and Geoff Aaron. The big news came later when Ben learned that he qualified to ride X Games EnduroCross, July 1 at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California. There he will compete against the worlds best in front of a packed stadium and live television.
