Come Sunday morning the track was absolutely perfect with it being tilled and watered ready to go for race day.
Practice went off without a hitch with some really good ruts forming in the corners which were sure to make for some good motos come race time.
Due to the excellent rider turn out on the weekend our MX2 Junior Class was forced to run qualifiers with 46 riders signed up. When the gate dropped on MX2 Qualifier #1 the Wide Open Racing KTM150 of Logan Gallant continued to show his hole shot dominance rocketing out of the gate. Cole Butcher, #53, was hot on his heals and after a heated battle took the win of Quali #1. Later in the day Logan took the hole shot in the Main and once showed his speed taking off from the field and taking the overall for the day in MX2 Junior.
In my first moto me and my good friend and fellow Pro #778 TJ Martin battled hard for almost the whole moto until he unfortunately stalled his bike in a tight S corner. TJ and I found each other on the track in all 3 motos that day. In the last moto my 250F got me a hole shot against the full line of 450s in our Pro GP class, TJ and I battled until the white flag was flown, but unfortunately I made and error in the arena cross section allowing TJ by. After that moto and riding with TJ this passed week I think there is going to be some epic battles in the remainder of this series. The track was great but just as we all thought the sun was going to come out, the clouds opened up into a 30 minute down poor! The last 5 laps of my second moto were one of the wettest and slipperiest laps I have ever done.
The remainder of the 1st half unfortunately had to deal with these conditions before the sun appeared. Thankfully Richard Strang had some great equipment and once he tilled the track it was almost perfect and made for a great 2nd half of the day.
Every moto was packed with good strong battles from start to finish including the beginner class where two of my good friends Jeremy Newton and Shane Kennedy in there 2nd race ever, battled hard swapping positions, block passing and pushing hard until the checkered flag taking the top spots.
After 2 days of cleaning and stripping the bike we were able to get out again at Miller Meadow MX Park practicing and my buddy TJ showed up to ride his brand new KX450F from Freedom Cycle, making the switch from his Honda. Getting use to the new bike is a big transition but he seems to be comfortable, we had some good times on the track battling back and forth testing each others speed and throwing some sick side by side scrubs for the few cameras that were there taking pictures.
The next round of our series is this coming weekend in Riverglade NB which will be host to an East Coast National in a couple months, Keep and eye out for the next blog to update you on the next couple weeks
